Before Discovering The Benefits of Cuticle Oil

Up until I was 18, I didn't really care about the health of my nails. I bit them, I would get acrylics and rip them off (cringe), and generally would not show them love. Let me show you how my nails used to look back then. This is what 5 years of improper acrylic removal damage, 15 years of nail biting, and 18 years of neglect looks like:

My cuticles are dry and thick. My nails are thin and shredded underneath that polish. This picture is the first time I ever decided to do my nails by myself. Call me crazy, but I loved the way they looked so much that I decided to stop biting my nails, right then and there. I started paying more attention to my nails and learned the many benefits of cuticle oil. I made cuticle oil a staple in my beauty routine, and here's what happened next.

After Using Cuticle Oil

Believe it or not, but this is the same person as the first picture: me! After consistently using cuticle oil, my nails flourished. My cuticles are no longer dry and super thick and no hang nails in sight! However, cuticle oil has more benefits than just keeping your nails looking moisturized.

Preventing Nail Breakage

One major benefit of cuticle oil is that your nails will suffer less breaks. When your nails are dry, they can snap and break easily under pressure. Dryness also encourages peeling to occur, which strips away layers of your nail making it weaker. Hit your nail the wrong way and bam, you got yourself a break.

When your nails are moisturized and hydrated, peeling is less likely to occur, and they tend to bend instead of break. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out! Your nails become more flexible when they are filled with cuticle oil so if you do happen to hit your nail the wrong way, you're more likely to survive.

Promoting Longer and Stronger Nails

Since consistent cuticle oil use helps prevent nail breakage, your nails have a chance to grow long! If you previously got nail extensions such as acrylics or gels, you may find yourself not needing them anymore since your nails can grow on their own now. Which brings us to the next point...

Saves You Money

Going to the salon every 2 weeks for a fill-in can get expensive, especially for quality work. A smaller investment would be some cuticle oil to help your nails grow long and strong, cutting out the huge expense of nail extensions. Now, you have the cheaper option of getting a simple manicure for a fraction of the cost.

Did I mention that cuticle oil also helps your manicure last longer, saving you even more money? While doing your manicure, make sure your nails are free of oil (I usually wipe mine down with a lint-free wipe soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol). Once the polish dries and you’re good to go, get to oiling!

When your nails are dry, they tend to curve inward more which pulls away from the polish and leads to chipping. Well-oiled nails have a softer curve that helps manicures last longer!

Making It A Habit

Building up a habit of using cuticle oil can be difficult. It's an easy thing to forget in a beauty routine and to start up after never doing it before. That's exactly why we made Cuticle Buddy® Portable Cuticle Oil, to make it easier than ever before to remember to apply cuticle oil throughout the day. Our mission is to get the world oiled up, one nail at a time.

I just placed an order. I’m so excited. I am addicted to cuticle oil and this is such a great idea!!! Now I’ll always have it on me. Plus the soothing blend sounds amazing. I always tend to have inflammation from biting and I think this will be a great deterrent.

Hi Sarah! Thank you so much for commenting. I personally do not recommend trimming your cuticles. Instead, pushing them back and using a liquid cuticle remover is a great alternative!

Can’t wait to try your oil! What do you think of trimming the cuticle? I’ve always had thicker cuticles.
