How To Help Dry Hands From Over-Washing & Sanitizing

How To Help Dry Hands From Over-Washing & Sanitizing

For the past few months, we really learned the importance of washing your hands and sanitizing them. The empty shelves of hand soap and disinfectants in my local grocery store are a testament to this. Although it is important to wash your hands and sanitize (especially in a time like this), there is one negative side effect:

It is one of the most drying things you can do to your hands.

According to Harvard Medical School, frequent exposure to water and "the use of oil-stripping soaps and drying alcohol found in hand sanitizers diminish the healthy fatty compounds in the top layer of the skin." Since your skin's protective barrier is compromised, you are left with irritated and sometimes even painful dry, cracked skin. This can also lead to skin infections!

How can you combat dryness?

  • Apply a thick hand cream after washing your hands.
  • Wash your hands with warm (not hot) water.
  • Blot your hands dry instead of rubbing them to prevent microabrasions.
  • Limit exposure to water as much as possible while remaining hygienic. Use gloves when washing dishes or cleaning.
  • Do overnight oil treatments by soaking your hands in oil and wearing nitrile gloves while you sleep.

But what does Cuticle Buddy® have to do with it?

Cuticle Buddy® Cleansing is a unique cuticle oil in our collection because it has tea tree oil in it. According to the American Society for Microbiology, tea tree oil has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Although it is NOT a replacement for traditional hand sanitizer or hand washing, it is an excellent way to restore moisture while ensuring that your hands remain clean and sanitary.

If you seek relief for dry, cracked, painful and/or itchy hands, try Cuticle Buddy® Soothing. While all of our Cuticle Buddy® variations will restore moisture to your hands, the peppermint oil found in Cuticle Buddy® Soothing is known for helping relieve itchy and inflamed skin (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health). Not to mention, it smells super refreshing!

Hi Diana! I am so happy to hear that Cuticle Buddy™ was able to help your cuticles and I really appreciate all of your support. Refills are coming very soon!

Meech

Hello and many (mani?) thanks to you. Your oil really turned my poor old cuticles around in a week. I wanted to love your Cuticle Buddy because I’m very keen to support as many young woman entrepreneurs as I can. I do love it. Thanks so much. I love the oil, the scent, the packaging is top drawer. I like Polish Lab Rat’s suggestion for refills. The packaging is so pretty to use just once. Thoughtful design there. I gave you a shout out on Facebook.
